The Monaco Car Collection, officially called the Car Collection of H.S.H. The Prince of Monaco (H.S.H. stands for His Serene Highness) consists of a large collection of cars ranging from the oldest cars to impressive modern Formula 1 cars, a sport that brings a lot of people to Monaco.
The collection itself is located opposite Port Hercules, next to one of the roads where the famous Monaco Grand Prix takes place.
The ticket can be bought on site and costs €10 / adult, but can be cheaper if bought together with one of Monaco's other attractions. In our case, we bought the ticket together with the Monaco Oceanographic Museum and paid €25 for both, instead of the €10 + €19. The timetable changes depending on the time of year, so we recommend checking the timetable on the website here..
This Monaco car collection, created by Prince Rainier III, a car lover, was opened to the public in the 1990s in an area of 3,500 m2.
Entering the space, which consists of two completely mirrored floors, we find a display case next to the reception with some small Formula 1 objects, such as posters and helmets. This is the only part of the exhibition where objects other than cars are displayed.
From here, we go down a staircase where we immediately realize the grandeur of what we are about to see: on the wall next to the stairs, there are two Formula 1 racing cars.
The tour on the lower floor starts with the oldest vehicles, from horse-drawn carts, to the first fuel cars, to the classic cars of the 1990s, to imposing cars in Monaco's history, such as the car in which Monaco's Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene drove after the royal wedding - a Lexus with a transparent glass cockpit that can be removed.
The collection continues with more modern cars, ending with the great Formula 1 cars (which make this museum so famous) and even the Paris-Dakar. In total, there are around 70 vehicles that make up this impressive collection, which always takes between 30m and 45m to be viewed with the attention it deserves.
